Amidst the layoff season, Nvidia emerges as a ray of hope for H-1B visa holders. With the recent amendments in the Immigration laws, a layoff just does not mean losing your job it means losing the right to stay in the country. The tech giant is not only hiring foreign workers but upping it H1-B intake at a time when other super players are routing to layoffs.
As per the US laws, a H1-B worker must get employed within 60 days of loosing the previous job. Miss that window you have no other choice but depart from the foreign land immediately. Companies like Meta, Google, Amazon in the recent days have either reduced their hiring or laid off employees amid a push towards AI incorportation into the system.
A latest report reveals, the tech firm secured certifications for around 1200 H1-B positions during the first two quarters of fiscal 2026, rougly a 1000 above during the same period last year. The contrast with other tech giants is striking.
Google’s H1-B approvals fell to 2200 from 5100 in the previous year while e-commerce king Amazon hired only 4300 individuals bringing its count down by roughly 2000 over the same period in the last year- data showed.
How will it benefit Indian Techies?
India remains as the largest source of H1-B talent in the United States accounting for a major portion of their employees associations. A USCIS-linked data showed Indians dominate the H1-B visa category by 73 percent. Which simply means Indian engineers are the biggest beneficiaries of H1-B visa.
The company sits at the top of the world with AI overpowering manpower. The chips by Nvidia power everything from ChatGPT- like models to large-scale data centres. Data reveals, the tech giant is willing to pay top dollar to attract AI and engineering talent. These figures are only the base salaries excluding the stick grants and bonuses which can significantly increase the package.
