Two youths have come out with the shocking revelation of a “marriage fraud” in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur district, where the boys were allegedly tricked by marriage brokers who got them married for a huge sum of money. When the bridegrooms allegedly made the marriage arrangements, the brides suddenly disappeared, and the families were left heartbroken and financially tricked.
The Sunera police station area in Shajapur district has reported this incident. The complainants said that the victim villages were targeted by the accused villagers, who made marriage appointments and demanded money as ‘arrangements’ with the bogus justification of deciding on marriage.
The two victims, Dharmendra and Arjun from Panwadi village, claimed that collectively they had lost some Rs 5.5 lakh in the scam. The media also reported that family members alleged to have seen movie footage indicated that cash payments were made to the brokers.
Nirbhay Singh claimed that with the help of his brokers Narayan Panda, Babu, and Sukhram, his son Dharmendra’m got married to Jyoti from Jhabua, after his brokers took Rs 2 lakh. It is said that the marriage documents were prepared on 19th November 2025. But, Jyoti allegedly spent just 15 days before getting off the premises and has not been back, allegedly to sound the news of her grandmother’s illness.
In another case, Arjun claimed to have been deceived for almost Rs 3 lakh, as the wedding was arranged by brokers with the potential bride, Ranu Bai Mishra. He told them they were the bride’s relatives and thus on a shopping date. He alleged that he had lost sight of Ranu Bai after 15 days of marriage, and she had taken away a mobile phone and silver anklets.
The victims who went to the Sunera police station on 21 May, but without any action being taken, made a complaint at the SP office several days later. Now, the police are probing for a possible connection between this marriage fraud case and other similar ones that were reported from the Dewas district.
