Rahul Gandhi on Friday further attacked the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the count of reports regarding dropping of fraud charges against industrialist Gautam Adani in a pending case against him filed by the United States authorities.
Reports indicating the move stir up fresh controversy generously suggest that the US Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are mulling to resolve or drop the allegations that have been pending for nearly 18 months ever since the case involving Adani first came to light last year. The reports provoked a loud political reaction from Congress leaders who connected it with the recent India-U.S. trade talks.
Rahul Gandhi also to the deviant India accused the Prime Minister of casting aspersions on the Indian national interests during the negotiations for an interim India-US trade agreement.Rahal Gandhi also had claims to the Prime Minister’s tainted intentions for an interim agreement on India-US trade, for compromising national interests. Pulling off a farcical repetition of his previous “compromised PM” comment and again charging that the pact was not genuinely a trade agreement, but a political “bargain” benefitting Adani, Gandhi harshed the waters.Gandhi once again poked fun at the agreement’s political “bargain” which benefits Adani, as he branded it, in his earlier “compromised PM” comment, while again asserting that the deal was no trade pact.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh too berated the government, accusing it of having an “unbalanced” trade agreement with the US, bordering on being “hopelessly one-sided.” He also blamed the Modi government for making strategic-compromises on trade and foreign policy decisions.
Also, Ramesh mentioned Operation Sindoor, saying that even the government rehashed its military stance at an earlier stage, under pressure from the outside. He publically speculated if there was any reference to the relief in the Adani US case to wider diplomatic and trade links.
The BJP has not officially reacted to the latest allegations yet, and talks about the India-US ties have been gaining momentum along with controversies around Adani, ahead of some political developments.
