Yogi Cabinet Minister Oath Ceremony: A year before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath finally expanded its cabinet. After much debate, six MLAs, including Bhupendra Chaudhary, Manoj Pandey, Kailash Rajput, Surendra Diler, Hansraj Vishwakarma, and Krishna Paswan, were sworn in as cabinet ministers. Somendra Tomar and Ajit Pal Singh were also promoted.
It should be noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party currently has 258 MLAs, of which 45 are Rajputs, 42 are Brahmins, 84 are OBCs, 59 are SCs, and 28 are other upper caste MLAs. Similarly, the BJP has 79 members in the 100-member Legislative Council. These include 23 Rajputs, 14 Brahmins, 26 OBCs, 2 Muslims, 12 other upper castes, and two SCs.
These MLAs took oath as ministers
Bhupendra Chaudhary: Considered the most prominent figure in Jat politics and western Uttar Pradesh, Chaudhary hails from the Moradabad region of western Uttar Pradesh. He has a strong following among the public and served as the Panchayati Raj Minister during the first term of the Yogi government. During his tenure as BJP state president, he played a key role in strengthening the organization down to the booth level. Currently, Bhupendra Chaudhary is an MLC, serving until 2028.
Krishna Paswan: Krishna Paswan, a Dalit representing the Dalit community, is also a frontrunner in the race for a ministerial position. Paswan’s influence and recognition could benefit the BJP in its fight against the SP’s PDA. His ministerial appointment could easily woo the Paswan vote bank in Purvanchal and Central Uttar Pradesh.
Hansraj Vishwakarma: Hansraj Vishwakarma could be the BJP’s most prominent political figure in wooing the OBC vote in Purvanchal. He is considered one of the BJP’s prominent OBC leaders, with a strong presence in Varanasi, Chandauli, Bhadohi, and surrounding districts. Vishwakarma has also been active in the organization for a long time. Therefore, his ministerial position is almost certain.
Surendra Diler: Originally from the Jatav community, Surendra Diler, MLA from the Khair assembly constituency, is also considered a near-certain candidate for a ministerial position. Diler comes from a family with a political background. His grandfather, Kishan Lal Diler, served as a four-time MP from the Hathras Lok Sabha seat. His name is considered quite influential in Dalit politics in western Uttar Pradesh.
Kailash Singh Rajput: Kailash Rajput is the MLA from Tirwa in Kannauj. He belongs to the Lodhi community. The Tirwa area is considered a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party. Therefore, Kailash Rajput could play a crucial role in breaking the SP’s stronghold. He won the Tirwa assembly seat in 1996 as a BJP candidate. He then joined the BSP and rejoined the BJP in the 2017 assembly elections.
Manoj Pandey: He has served as a minister in the Samajwadi Party government. He is considered a prominent Brahmin leader in the state. He is being offered the ministerial position to garner Brahmin votes and, through them, to make inroads into SP voters. It’s worth noting that Pandey distanced himself from the Samajwadi Party during the Lok Sabha elections and openly supported the BJP. Since then, his name has been in the news.
