Washington: The Unites States still awaits response to its peace deal aimed at formally ending the war with Iran. The proposal that seeks truce amidst the ongoing conflict aims at focusing on more contentious discussions, including Iran’s nuclear program.
US President Friday interacting with the reporters on Friday night mentioned that Washington’s latest proposal aimed at ending the conflict, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tehran’s reply was anticipated within hours. However, no official response had been received by Saturday.
Meanwhile, Iran’s military commander Ali Abdullahi met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei local agency reported. During the meeting, Khamenei reportedly praised the country’s armed forces and announced, “new measures and a path to continue the measures and confront the enemies powerfully”.
No further details about the new measures or specific military strategy, regional security or Iran’s ongoing tensions with its adversaries were revealed.
Amidst rising tension at Hormuz, Qatar confirmed that a commercial cargo ship travelling through its territorial waters was targeted by a drone on Sunday morning. Authorities said the vessel, which had arrived from Abu Dhabi, suffered a limited fire onboard following the incident. No injuries were reported.
“The vessel continued its journey toward Mesaieed Port after the fire was brought under control. The necessary measures were taken, and coordination was carried out with the relevant authorities,” a statement from the defence ministry said.
Additionally, drones have been sighted in the Middle Eastern region. Kuwait’s Defence Ministry said a “number of hostile drones” entered the country’s airspace early on Sunday morning. In a post on X, a ministry spokesperson said the drones were handled “in accordance with established procedures”. UAE said on Sunday, its air defence systems intercepted two drones launched from Iran, according to a report. In its statement, the ministry said the UAE’s armed forces remain fully prepared to respond to any threats targeting the country’s security and stability. Authorities also urged the public to avoid areas where debris from intercepted aerial objects may fall.
