Punjab: A high alert has been issued in Punjab following two back-to-back explosions in two separate locations on Tuesday night. Security is heightened with the deployment of army personnel on both sites. A multi-agency investigation has also been initiated to probe the case.
The first blast was reported near BSF establishment in Jalandhar following by another in Amritsar, being close to the Border Security Force HQ. While no causalities have been reported, the local police and central investigating officers have launched a probe. CCTV footage reveals, the first blast took place following a scooter explosion in a busy locality. Eyewitness stated the scooter caught fire minutes after explosion, triggering panic among the crowd.
Hours later, second blast was reported in Khasa, Amritsar outside an Army camp located near BSF settlements. Preliminary probe reveals a motorcycle born assailant allegedly hurled grenade at the site.
Amritsar (Rural) SSP Suhail Mir Qasim interacting with the reporters at the site said, “We received information around 11 pm that a loud sound was heard on a road in Khasa. Thereafter, our teams reached there immediately.” “The Bomb Disposal Squad conducted checks at the site while the FSL team collected evidence, which has been sent for sampling and testing. We are examining how many blasts occurred and the exact nature of the incident,” the SSP added.
Teams from NIA in Chandigarh are collaborating with Punjab Police for investigating the Twin blast case. Significantly cross border element is being considered as the reason for the blasts. The attackers aim to instill fear by targeting accessible facilities, with local radical groups allegedly backed by foreign handlers under ISI direction executing the plan.
