One of the most legendary voices in Indian music, Asha Bhosle, a legend in Hindi cinema, died at the age of 92. Breach Candy Hospital had taken in the veteran singer when he had suffered cardiac and respiratory complications. According to sources, she was already ill in a number of months and went to the hospital in a critical condition and was admitted to ICU on Saturday night. Her son, Anand Bhosle, verified her death on Sunday and last rites would be on the next day.
Asha Bhosle was born in the year 1933 in the family of renowned Mangeshkar and she started her musical career very early in life and in 1943 she recorded her first film song. Throughout the decades, she was one of the most prolific and versatile playback singers in Indian film, performing thousands of songs in every genre and language. Her career lasted over 60 years and in this time she collaborated with some of the largest filmmakers and composers in the industry.
Asha was often compared to her older sister Lata Mangeshkar and created her own distinctive image through her versatile voice and flexibility. She was able to express a spectrum never before witnessed as peppy cabarets to soulful ghazals, with memorable performances in the movies such as Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat.
Being a winner of various awards such as National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards, Asha Bhosle has left an indelible mark in the music industry that is still an inspiration to many generations.
