On Friday, Omar Abdullah vehemently criticised the current war between Iran and termed it as an unfair and unlawful war, and urged Narendra Modi to use his diplomatic skills in assisting to end the crisis.

Upon addressing the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah who is leading the House, was concerned about the loss of lives in the conflict. He also offered condolences on the alleged death of Ali Khamenei and others that were in the violence. Taking the wider humanitarian effect, he requested the deployment of diplomacy to end the violence in the near future.

I earnestly request the Prime Minister to employ every good diplomatic means and international connection that will aid in bringing this war to the earliest possible conclusion. This does not only serve the interest of India, but the interest of humanity in general, Abdullah said.

The Assembly session was marked by high tempers where the members of the National Conference, Congress, CPI(M), PDP, and Independent legislators shouted slogans supporting Iran. In the meantime, the representatives of BJP defended themselves by claiming that it concerned an international matter and that it should not be discussed in the Assembly.

The house got out of control, which caused Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to briefly adjourn the House. The proceedings resumed and more deliberations were made with various MLAs having different opinions on the issue.

The events also point to the increasing political fear in India of the tension in West Asia and its implications on the world.
