Amritsar: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has achieved a major success in its ongoing campaign against narcotics and illegal weapons. Police have busted two internationally organized smuggling modules and arrested a total of 10 accused. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that this operation was carried out in a highly planned manner by special teams.

Initial investigations have revealed the shocking discovery that the arrested accused were in direct contact with smugglers based in Pakistan through various social media platforms. Acting on their instructions, these accused were responsible for supplying consignments from across the border to Punjab and other areas.

The network was running from jail

According to Police Commissioner Bhullar, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi Patti, a key gang leader currently lodged in Goindwal Jail, was operating the entire network from there. His other associates were apprehended after Gopi’s interrogation. Many of the arrested accused have long criminal records. Among them, Gurpreet Singh has charges of heroin smuggling, Lovepreet Singh has charges of murder, and Satnam Singh and Manpreet Singh Manna have several serious cases registered against them.

Zero tolerance: Police engaged in digging out the roots of the network

Police are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine the areas to which this consignment of heroin and weapons was intended. Police are connecting the forward and backward linkages of this network. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. Punjab Police has reiterated that its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and gun culture will continue in the state.
