Final electoral list of Tamil Nadu has been released after Election commission Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, where over 74 lakh names have been excluded in the voter list. The new rolls were published on Monday by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the state Archana Patnaik, before the ensuing Assembly elections.
As at October 27, 2025 before the revision, the overall electorate in Tamil Nadu was 6.41 crore. As per the last list published on February 23, 2026, it currently stands at 5.67 crore which indicates that a large number of entries was deleted during the verification exercise.
The new electorate according to official figures comprises about 2.7 crore male voters, 2.8 crore female voters and 7,617 third gender voters. Shozhinganallur in Chengalpattu district has the largest number of electors at 5.36 lakh and the Harbour constituency has the lowest number of electors at 1.16 lakh.
According to the Election Commission, anyone unhappy with the deletion or omission of his or her name in the SIR can do so by visiting the authorities once the final roll is published. Recognised political parties will also get a copy of the updated electoral list.
Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 provides that the voters may seek a first appeal to the District Election Officer, against the decisions of the Electoral Registration Officer. In case of need a second appeal can be filed with Chief Electoral Officer in accordance with Section 24(b).
One of the other states to vote in the Assembly elections this summer is Tamil Nadu.
