In a joint high-seas operation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the Indian Coast Guard, over 200 kilograms of drugs were recovered from a fishing boat arriving from Iran. Two smugglers have been arrested and are being brought to Porbandar.
It is worth noting that earlier in April last year, in a joint operation, the ATS and the Coast Guard had seized 300 kg of narcotics dumped by smugglers in the Arabian Sea, the value of which was estimated to be around Rs 1,800 crore.
Preliminary investigations suggest the substance was being imported from Iran and was destined for a person in Punjab. The speedboat was also seized during the operation. The recovered packets have been sent to the Porbandar Coast Guard Station for further forensic examination. Around 8 p.m. Monday, two Iranian nationals aboard the speedboat were apprehended and found carrying 203 packets containing a suspicious white powder-like chemical substance.
