Emmanuel Macron India Visit: French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived on a three-day visit to India. Macron and his wife Brigitte were welcomed at the Mumbai airport by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and CM Devendra Fadnavis. Emmanuel Macron will hold bilateral talks with PM Modi.
Replying to the French President, PM Modi wrote a tweet in French, “Welcome to India! India welcomes your visit and looks forward to giving new impetus to our strategic partnership. I am confident that our discussions will further strengthen cooperation across various sectors and contribute to global progress”.
The main objective of this visit is to further strengthen defence, trade and technological relations. The India-France Year of Innovation will also be launched. The India-France Year of Innovation and Cultural Commemoration will be held at the Gateway of India on Tuesday evening. Macron will also participate in the AI Summit in Delhi on Thursday.
This is his fourth visit to India since assuming office in 2017. India and France will discuss further strengthening their defense, trade, and technology ties. Today, PM Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai.
According to official sources, around a dozen agreements/MoUs are expected to be signed following the bilateral meeting, covering areas such as defense, trade, skills, health, and supply chains. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, in Mumbai, the leaders will jointly inaugurate the India-France Year of Innovation, which will be celebrated in both countries until 2026.
The Indian government last week approved a proposal to purchase 114 Rafale fighter jets from France under a government-to-government framework. India and France will also hold their 6th Annual Defense Dialogue in Bengaluru on Tuesday, where their defense cooperation agreement is expected to be renewed for another 10 years.
