West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has even been reported to send flowers and sweets to Bangladesh Prime Minister-elect Tarique Rahman after he secured victory in the just concluded general elections in Bangladesh on behalf of his party.
The gifts were given to one of the members of the BNP Media Cell, Atiqur Rahman Ruman, in the political office of BNP chairman in Gulshan. This was done following a historic mandate by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Previously, Banerjee, referred to as Didi, congratulated the people of Bangladesh and Tarique Rahman on social networking site X. She further passed her greetings before the sacred month of Ramzan.
My warm congratulations to everyone of my fellow-countrymen in Bangladesh. I wish Ramzan Mubarak a happy greeting. On this tremendous triumph, my congratulations to my Tarique Bhai and his party, as well as the parties. May you all be well and happy. I would like to see our relations with Bangladesh always so cordial, wrote she.
This message of Banerjee addressed cultural and historical connections between West Bengal and Bangladesh and her wish to remain cooperative and friendly between the neighbouring areas.
As it was observed by political observers, the outreach has been encouraged by the fact that cross-border goodwill is important, especially considering that the two sides have a strong social, linguistic, and economic relationship.
