Gurpatwant Singh Pannun Murder Case: There has been a major twist in the case of conspiracy to murder US-based Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta confessed his crime in a New York court on Friday. Following this, the New York court sentenced Nikhil Gupta to 24 years in prison. The sentence will be formally announced on May 29. The US Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York has confirmed this.
The FBI posted on X about Nikhil Gupta’s confession. According to the FBI, the plot was hatched to assassinate an American citizen, but it was foiled by US agencies in time.
According to a statement from the US Attorney’s Office, Nikhil Gupta, alias ‘Nick’, pleaded guilty to all three charges in the Second Superseding Indictment: murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
US Attorney Jay Clayton said, “Nikhil Gupta conspired to murder an American citizen in New York. He thought he could sit outside and kill someone here and nothing would happen to him, but he was wrong. Now he will face punishment.” Gupta has pleaded guilty to three charges: contract killing, conspiracy to commit murder, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Combined, he faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. His sentence will be announced by Victor Marrero on May 29. Gupta was extradited to the US from the Czech Republic in June 2024. He has been jailed without bail in Brooklyn since then.
