BHOPAL – A gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through the Nishatpura area of Bhopal after the body of a 22-year-old woman was found stuffed inside an iron trunk, submerged in a water tank on a vacant plot. The incident, which came to light on Thursday evening, February 12, has led to the arrest of four individuals, including the victim’s live-in partner.
Discovery and Investigation
The matter surfaced when local residents in the Chhe Ghara–Kamal Nagar locality noticed a pungent smell emanating from a 10-foot-deep water tank on an empty construction site. Upon inspection, a trunk was seen floating in the water. Nishatpura police, led by SHO Manoj Patwa and Additional DCP Malkeet Singh, rushed to the scene with a forensic team.
After pumping out the water, officials retrieved the tin box to find the decomposing body of a woman. Preliminary assessments suggest the victim, later identified as Misbah, a resident of Maharashtra’s Gondia district, had been dead for approximately three to four days.
Love, Betrayal, and Arrests
Within 24 hours of the recovery, police cracked the case, uncovering a tragic tale of a relationship gone wrong. Misbah had reportedly been living in Bhopal with her partner, Sameer, whom she met through a dating application.
“The investigation revealed that the victim was strangled during the intervening night of February 7 and 8 following a heated argument over marriage and financial issues,” a senior police official stated.
According to investigators, Sameer allegedly kept the body in his house for nearly 24 hours before packing it into the trunk. He then sought the assistance of his mother, brother, and sister to transport and dump the box into the nearby tank under the cover of darkness. All four family members have been taken into custody.
The body has been sent to Hamidia Hospital for a post-mortem examination. While the primary suspects are in a lockup, police are continuing to scan CCTV footage and collect forensic evidence to build a foolproof case.
