Customs: at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow, the Customs have discovered hydroponic ganja worth about 2 crores of money belonging to the passenger who had just arrived at the airport through Bangkok. The smuggling goods were sneakily packed in biscuit boxes, authorities reported.
It was seized when the Flight FD-146, which took off from Bangkok, landed at Lucknow. Based on certain intelligence reports concerning the smuggling of a high number of narcotics, the customs officials recognized and arrested a suspicious passenger in an attempt to investigate him further. As the officials searched through the baggage of the passenger, they found the hydroponic ganja that had been smuggled in the baggage as eight biscuit boxes, but all sealed.
As the sources of customs stated, the accused had been trying to avoid detection by putting in polythene wraps and hiding them drugs that were in what seemed to be regular biscuit packets. The official, however, on opening the boxes to have a peek, did not expect to find hydroponic weed but rather food products.
It has been estimated that the weight of the narcotics was ascertained to weigh 5 kilograms and 88 grams. The type of price of hydroponic ganja in the international market is high, meaning that the overall value of the consignment that was confiscated is estimated at approximately 2.05 crore in the international market.
The charges have been filed against the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The passenger is arrested, and he is now being interrogated.
According to the law enforcers, the accused can be a member of a bigger global drug trafficking ring, and the investigation is being extended to find out the potential connection, dealers, and the target customers in India. The law enforcement agencies have not disqualified any impending arrest in the days ahead.
The customs officials indicated that there is increased surveillance at the international airports to reduce drug trafficking, particularly with Southeast Asian countries. The department again announced its determination to ensure that it takes stern action against individuals who want to engage in the smuggling of narcotics, and no such substances should be made or be in the hands of young people and the rest of society.
