Mumbai: Agastya Nanda’s film Ikkis hits theatres on January 1 amid the ongoing Dhurandhar storm at the box office. The film marks the acting debut of Akshay Kumar’s niece Simar Bhatia and is also the last release of late legendary actor Dharmendra.

Sunny Deol posted an emotional message about Ikkis, the biographical war drama featuring veteran actor Dharmendra. He said the film holds deep significance for the Deol family and stands as a tribute to his father’s values, life story, and the strong bond he shared with his roots and his fans. “Our Papa, the man of the soil, Ikkis is his salute, his gift to the earth he loved and to the fans who always stood by him. For our family, it is a treasure filled with his spirit, courage, and his heart. Today, with love and immense pride, we share it with the world, hoping it lives on the way he does, forever”, wrote Sunny Deol on his social media account.

Ikkis was originally scheduled to release on December 25. But the makers decided to postpone the release by a week. Amitabh Bachchan, who is the grandfather of Agastya, said that the date was changed due to astrological reasons. Despite the delay, the Dhurandhar craze has refused to ebb, and Ikkis’ early box office collections could suffer because of it.

Ikkis revolves around the life of 2nd Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient. Ahead of the film’s release, the makers held a special screening for Mukesh Khetarpal, the younger brother of Arun Khetarpal, along with several industry personalities. After the screening, Mukesh admitted that Agastya’s performance as Arun made him emotional and brought him to tears.
