Inqilab Moncho has already declared complete blockades in all city-divides of Bangladesh today after the protests to seek justice to slain party leader Sharif Osman Hadi have been escalating continuing its expansion beyond the capital, Dhaka. In a statement posted on its official Facebook page and publicised by the Bangladeshi media outlets, the organisation announced that the blockades would start at 11.00 am local time on Sunday.
It was also announced at Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka where Inqilab Moncho activists have been maintaining a continuous sit-in since Friday. On Saturday, the movement spread to other cities and protesters blocked roads, and also held protests in Dhaka, Sylhet, Chattogram and Kushtia. According to local media reports, majority of the demonstrators were mostly Inqilab Moncho supporters who were all celebrating their demand to have justice in the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi.
Protesters who had occupied Shahbagh following Jummah prayers later in the afternoon were not forced out at night in the capital. The protesters briefly moved to the front of Aziz Supermarket on Sunday at noon to enable the BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to pay his respects to the grave of Hadi in the Dhaka University neighborhood. The protesters went back to Shahbagh at an approximate of 12:40 pm after the visit and once again paralysed vehicular traffic movement in the busy area.
Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber gave a stern warning to the assembly at Shahbagh and told the government it would step up the movement on failure to eliminate the government. He told them that the demonstration might be extended to occupations of important government places, as the chief adviser residence of Jamuna, the parliament or even the cantonment.
Indifference of the government was also criticised by Jaber as no one in the government had taken a step to visit the protest site even after days of sit-in.
