China also attacked a Pentagon report on Thursday in which it was alleged that Beijing was seeking to diffuse tensions in its border with India to weaken its ties with New Delhi and at the same time increasing defence cooperation with Pakistan. Chinese authorities rejected the claims calling it misleading and in seeking to cause disharmony by what they termed as false and prejudiced accounts.
In his responses to questions about the US Department of Defense report that was presented to the American Congress, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, stated that the report distorted the national defence policy of China and it was trying to create mistrust between China and other nations. According to him, the report was made to justify that the United States should maintain its military superiority in the world. China strongly protested against this report and Lin at a routine media briefing dismissed its allegations in categorical terms.
Individually, the spokesperson of the Chinese Defence Ministry, Zhang Xiaogang, also criticized the report, which showed increased collaboration between China and Pakistan in other sectors like defence and space besides mentioning schemes in regards to the setting up of military bases. Zhang indicated that that the US had been making such reports annually, accusing the Washington of being a gross interfering entity in the internal affairs of China.
It was reported that he had made negative assumptions regarding the development of military in China and that the report had been maliciously misinterpreting the national defence policy of China. As Zhang reveals, the pentagon had overdramatised the so-called Chinese military threat and had defamed the normal defence moderation of China to fool the international community.
Zhang did not specifically respond to specific accusations of Chinese growing defence and strategic alliance with Pakistan, but reported that this was based on geopolitical prejudice and a misconception about Chinese intentions.
Showing great discontent, Zhang claimed that China strongly disapproved of the report and called on the United States to cease creating fallacies, instigating conflict, and stimulating hostility.
