Kyiv: Ukrainian officials on Thursday, confirmed that the Kremlin army had seized the southern city of Kherson, on the 8th day of the invasion. The information was provided by a Twitter account of a local newsroom. Moreover, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry sounded air sirens in major cities like Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, Mykolaiv, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernihiv and Chernihiv Oblast, Volyn Oblast, Cherkasy Oblast, Kirovohrad Oblast, Poltava Oblast, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa. Residents have been asked to go to the nearest shelter. Reportedly, the Russian militia launched a strike at 3 schools and Kharkiv’s Assumption Cathedral. Dozens of residential buildings were destroyed in Okhtyrka.
An overnight shelling in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city reported 8 civilian deaths including 2 children. With the fighting in Kharkiv underway, ground reports suggest the Russian forces are heading towards Ukraine’s Odessa.
At the UNGA, on Wednesday, India for the second time abstained from voting in favour of the resolution passed against Russia. Around 141 votes in favour, 35 abstentions and five votes against were recorded.
