Makers reveal special video featuring Ranbir Kapoors transformation into Rama on 44th birthday

Celebrating Ranbir Kapoor’s 44th birthday on Sunday, the mythological drama Ramayana team put together an unforgettable gift for the Saawariya star. Not a physical one, but a memory to cherish for a lifetime, the team created a behind-the-scenes video of his transformation into Lord Rama, with narration by Arun Govil, the OG Rama from Ramanand Sagar’s TV classic Ramayan.

Govil didn’t hold back. He said Ranbir has the qualities he pictures in Rama, from the way he walks and sits to the way he looks and speaks. “Among all the young stars who are available at the moment, Ranbir Kapoor is the closest to play Lord Rama,” he said in the video.

He also mentioned something that has nothing to do with the camera. According to Govil, Ranbir touches his feet every time they meet. Govil plays King Dasharath, Rama’s father, in Nitesh Tiwari’s film.

Ranbir, for his part, doesn’t treat the part as just another role. He called it a responsibility. What stands out to him about Rama, he said, is the ability to forgive, and his aim is to live up to the faith people have in this story.

The rest of the cast also weighed in. Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita, said she was awestruck the first time she saw Ranbir in his Rama look because it matched the image of Rama she grew up with. Ravie Dubey, who plays Lakshman, said he saw the innocence of Rama in Ranbir’s portrayal.

Apart from Ranbir, Sai Pallavi and Dubey, the film stars Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.

Ramayana is being made in two parts. The first is due at Diwali 2026, and the second is planned for Diwali 2027. The makers are pitching it as a large-scale retelling of the ancient epic.
