QUETTA: More than 24 people lost their lives while over 50 others received injuries when a massive bomb attack took place in the province of Balochistan in Pakistan, where a train filled with military men and their families was blown up. The deadly attack took place in the provincial capital, Quetta on Sunday morning.
Security sources claim that the train bound for Peshawar was loaded with around 300 people, comprising army officers heading towards Quetta to celebrate the upcoming Eid festival. In his statement, a senior official confirmed that the Peshawar-bound train was traveling past the signal point of Chaman Pattak when a car packed with explosives deliberately rammed against one of its bogies resulting in a massive explosion.
As a result of this massive blast, the train sustained serious damage. Witness statements and reports of news agencies mentioned a very horrifying scene following the blast. Two bogies of the train derailed and overturned upside down due to the intensity of fire.
The impact of the blast was so powerful that it smashed the windows and glass panes of the surrounding buildings and completely devastated the houses neighboring the scene of the explosion. More than ten civilian vehicles that were parked around the rail lines were damaged or destroyed due to the debris resulting from the blast.
People in horror flocked to the area and began to climb over the deformed metal structure of the upturned train compartments in search of any survivors buried under the debris. The injured and wounded persons at the location were shifted to the Civil Hospital, FC Hospital, and CMH Quetta. Authorities have declared a medical emergency in all the hospitals in Quetta amid the fear of rising fatalities.
