Worsening conditions of fires are burning through the greater Los Angeles area, and the results are catastrophic. Six people were killed, and 180000 residents were left without shelter. Officials have said that the reported number of deaths might increase since the fires keep burning and new incidents still occur.
Dryness compounded by gusty winds has created at least five large fires, and clamminess has elicited scenes of disaster in regions not commonly associated with such calamities. The most damaging is the Palisades Fire, covering more than 17,200 acres or approximately twenty-seven square kilometers. The fire has burned approximately 1,000 buildings and, as of tonight, is only 6% contained.
On top of that, there is a new fire called the Kenneth Fire that started this afternoon in the Woodland Hills neighbourhood near Calabasas, California. This fire led to more pursuits of orders to evacuate as people started running for their lives. Unhappy with the threat posed by the fire, officials were eventually able to prevent the wildfires advance and evacuation orders were reduced.
America has learned that it gets worse when an evacuation alert for nearly 10 million mobile phone users of Los Angeles was a mere mistake. This gave rise to a lot of panic, especially to the people who lived far from these areas of risk.
Firefighters have not relented in the efforts put in place to fight the fires, but the situation still calls for concern. Police and firefighters are concentrating on preventing new fires and helping the affected population. The origin of concern and alarm related to wildfires and the organization of disaster preparedness in the analyzed region yelled the relevance of communication during emergencies.
