Kyiv: It was a day of searching for survivors and for answers across Ukraine on Tuesday after Russian forces struck and levelled a children’s hospital, among other targets. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in total, 38 Ukrainians were killed, among them four children; 190 were hospitalized with injuries as almost 40 missiles struck several Ukrainian settlements.

Honour lists also acted by ordering flags to be flown at half-staff and cancelling entertainment in Kyiv as a day of mourning for the victims was proclaimed. Cranes and first responders relocated building fragments at the scene of Okhmatdyt, the prominent attacked centre, including the pediatric hospital. He claimed that people were still being searched for and found at several attack sites, while the patients from Okhmatdyt had been shifted to other medical centres.

The interior ministry of Ukraine assured that searching for bodies in the destroyed hospital is over; in the attack, 2 people perished: a doctor and a visitor; moreover, 32 people were injured; among them, eight children were hospitalized. Responding to this, Zelensky said with confidence that the work to enhance the level of protection of cities and communities from Russian terror is ongoing, and there will be decisions. Based on this, the participants adopted a decision on further steps.

He has been encouraging allies to provide more air defense to Ukraine and was likely to repeat the appeal at the NATO summit starting in Washington later on Tuesday. He also demanded an emergency session of the UN Security Council to address the air strikes that killed 10 people in Ukraine’s Kryvyi Rih city, where he hails from. He said that about 400 of the rescuers addressed the strikes, and hundreds of participants convened at the Okhmatdyt complex to clear debris and seek for survivors.

Local authorities told AFP that two of the victims were adults who perished in the hospital, while the mayor of Kyiv stated that three people were found dead under the debris of a destroyed apartment building in one of the central districts.
