WORLD: The coronavirus pandemic has turned into a biological disaster and continues to cost human lives on a mass scale. After more than 4.5 months of its origin, the novel coronavirus has infected over 5.5 million people worldwide & has killed nearly 350,000 people.There are 2,373,310 active cases out of 5,593,148 total confirmed cases. With 350,509 fatalities around the world due to COVID-19, there have been 2,288,034 patients who have recovered from it so far.

On Wednesday, 18,611 new cases & 693 deaths reported from USA. The US continues to remain the worst hit country reporting maximum cases, deaths as well as active cases. That raises the national total to at least 1,680,913 cases and 98,913 deaths. Of an estimated 62,344 health care professionals who have contracted the disease, at least 291 have died, said the Centers for Disease Control.

Latin America has become the new epicentre of the global pandemic. Latin America has surpassed Europe and the United States in the daily number of reported Covid-19 infections. Brazil overtook Russia over the weekend to become the worst affected country due to epidemic after America with 3,91,222 cases. Chile and Peru are among the region’s worst hit.

Globally, India is among top 10 worst hit country due to coronavirus. Within 8 days, India’s COVID-19 count has crossed the gruesome milestone of 150,000 confirmed cases from 1,00,000 mark. The states registered 6,387 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus patients in India increased to 151,767.

Russia has reported a total of 362,342 confirmed cases and 3,807 deaths , the third-highest number in the world after the United States and Brazil. In the last 24 hours, the country has reported around 8915 new cases and 174  new deaths according to Johns Hopkins University.

Germany has reported 362 new cases and 47 new deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours. With this the nation’s total raised to 179,364 cases and 8,349 death toll.

A total of 257 cases have now been linked to the nightclub cluster in Seoul’s entertainment district of Itaewon. The country reported 40 new cases today, the highest daily rise in cases since early April. Total cases in South Korea reaches to 11,265 and death toll rises to 269.

The economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis continues to broaden and deepen but Fitch Ratings’ forecasts are starting to show some signs of stabilisation. Activity levels should start to rise in the months ahead, provided that a sharp resurgence in virus cases is avoided as lockdowns are relaxed. However, it will take a long time to return to normality.
