China on Monday announced to send across medical aid to ebola-hit DRC.
The “Chinese government has decided to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the DRC and, in particular, send medical expert teams for medical services and assistance,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing.
China since the breakout has been providing assistance to the African Union Commission against Ebola as well as to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
As of today, at least 282 confirmed cases of Ebola have been reported in Congo’s ongoing outbreak. The outbreak remains focused in Congo’s eastern Ituri province, where 264 of the cases have been recorded, Congo’s Ministry of Health said. Congo has reported over 1,000 suspected cases with the Bundibugyo virus, the current species of Ebola, which has no approved treatment or vaccine.
Officials have cited containing the outbreak include early detection and rapid isolation of cases, rigorous contact tracing, safe and dignified burials and strengthening infection prevention and control in health facilities.
On Sunday, five patients including two nurses and one lab worker- the most affected group recovered from Ebola. Celebrating the achievement, World Health Organization (WHO) chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the four on a visit to Bunia, “You are living stories that this outbreak can be stopped.”
Meanwhile, 2 patients in Rio De Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil tested positive for ebola.
