New Delhi: The connection between the two countries via air routes has had one of the biggest pushes in years in recent weeks, when Air China has restarted its Beijing-Delhi flights. The commencement of the prestigious air service by Air China on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, signals the dawn of renewed interaction between India and China after four years of a stalemate due to travel restrictions.
Restoration of a Crucial Air Route.
The Beijing-Delhi flight link had been temporarily discontinued since early 2020 because of the coronavirus outbreak and subsequent border conflict at Galwan Valley. Its restoration is seen as an encouraging sign for closer collaboration among citizens. Flight schedules indicate that Air China will operate its Beijing-Delhi flights on three days each week—Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. The airline is deploying large passenger aircraft Airbus A330s for this purpose.
The return of Air China is part of a wider revival of the aviation corridor between the two nations:
- China Eastern Airlines recently resumed its Kunming-Kolkata service on April 18, adding to its existing Shanghai-Delhi route.
- IndiGo has aggressively expanded its China network, launching daily non-stop flights between Kolkata and Shanghai on March 29, 2026, alongside services to Guangzhou.
- Air India also rejoined the fray earlier this February, restoring its Shanghai-Delhi connection.
According to experts, the re-introduction of direct flights would bring about a huge reduction in costs in terms of logistics and travel time for industries in technology and manufacturing.
“This resumption of Air China’s direct flights is not only about travel; it symbolizes Trade, Tourism, and Trust,” according to Yu Jing, a spokesperson at the Chinese embassy in India.
These policies have followed the latest changes in Indian and Chinese policies, where India relaxed its foreign investment norms in favor of some Chinese sectors while opening all visa categories for Chinese citizens last November.
