Alberta: Canada’s Alberta announced a state of emergency as wildfires flared across the Canadian province, forcing 25000 people to flee their homes. One-third of the blaze have been listed as out of control as top officials announced it as unprecedented crisis.
At a press conference, Premier Danielle Smith, the leader of Alberta’s government, declared the state of emergency. “The declaration gives the government greater powers to respond to extreme situations”, she said.
Thousands more have been told to be prepared to leave the place at a moment’s notice as the number of fires fanned by strong winds jumped to 110. Unusually warm and dry weather has mixed with strong winds, sending the number of active fires across Alberta to 120. Nearly 8,65,000 acres in the province has been burned since the beginning of the year.
