Mumbai: Having had an impressive opening weekend, where the movie made double-digit figures, Akshay Kumar’s latest horror-comedy, Bhooth Bangla, is now settling down for its usual Monday-to-Friday run. The movie made single-digit figures during its fifth day of release, but it had sufficient strength to sustain its hope of making a century figure.
The Box Office Breakdown
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reports that on Tuesday (fifth day of release), the movie made ₹9.30 crore. The total collection made by the movie since its release in India is ₹82.65 crore. Although the movie received negative reviews from critics upon release, the nostalgia of the collaboration between Akshay and Priyadarshan is paying off in terms of the audience’s response.
According to producer Balaji Telefilms Ltd, the movie’s total domestic gross is ₹97.75 crore, and it is just on the verge of making a century figure in India.
Interestingly, Tuesday saw a slight uptick in show counts, rising to 11,158 shows compared to Monday’s 10,984. The film registered an overall occupancy of 20%, with evening shows drawing the strongest footfalls. Delhi-NCR led the markets with a 29.3% occupancy rate, followed closely by Mumbai at 28.3%.
Competitive Landscape
While Bhooth Bangla has comfortably outperformed Akshay Kumar’s previous release, Jolly LLB 3 (which earned ₹6.50 crore on Day 5), it still lags behind the record-breaking pace of Housefull 5. However, with no major Bollywood releases scheduled until May 1, trade experts predict the film will enjoy a “free run,” potentially emerging as a significant commercial success for Kumar.
Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Cape of Good Films, the movie features an ensemble cast including Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Tabu.
