Bollywood: COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world down to it’s knees. Not only developing countries like India but even the developed countries like USA are struggling to keep up with the speed at which the deadly disease is spreading. Moreover, there are clear shortage of basic medical equipment like Masks,Sanitizers and Hazmat Suits that the doctors fighting the pandemic on the front line require.
There are several renowned personalities from the Indian film fraternity who came forward to provide help to the needy. The donations,both monetary and otherwise,seek to bring the much- needed relief to those struggling with the crisis.
Here is a list of those actors and famous personalities who are playing good Samaritans and helping their countrymen fight the pandemic.
Akshay Kumar :
The Self-Made bollywood billionaire on Saturday took Twitter to announce he will contribute a whopping Rs.250 million to PM Narendra Modi’s relief fund. His contribution seems to be maximum among the actors who have robustly participated in the PM’s fund raiser. “This is the time when all that matters is the lives of our people”, his post read. His wife and author Mrs.Twinkle Khanna was quick to appreciate him. “This man makes me proud. When I asked him if he was sure as it was such a massive amount and we needed to liquidate funds,he just said,’I had nothing when I started and now that I am in this position,how can I hold back from doing whatever I can for those who have nothing.’
Varun Dhawan :
The Street dancer actor promised to contribute Rs.3 million to the PM’s Care fund tweeting: “We will overcome this. Desh hai to hum hai.”
Allu Arjun :
The South Indian actor promised to donate Rs.12.5 million to Telangana,Andhra Pradesh and Kerala to fight against Pandemic. He also appealed to the public to stay hygienic and practice self isolation.
Hritik Roshan :
The ‘War’ actor has been posting relentlessly on ways to battle the Coronavirus outbreaking by urging his fans to stay indoors to prevent the spread. He also procured N95 and FFP3 masks for Municipal Workers for Mumbai.
Rajnikant :
The Famous South Indian actor who made a television debut this week with ‘Into the Wild with Bear Grylls’, has donated Rs.5 million for relief work.
Prabhas :
The Soft-spoken actor Prabhas put forward Rs.40 Million towards the COVID-19 relief fund.
Shahrukh Khan :
Shahrukh Khan is the latest celebrity to come forward to donate and do his bit in the fight against Coronavirus.
The actor’s various companies like Kolkata Knight Riders,Red Chillies Entertainment,Meer Foundation nand Red Chillies VFX-have pledged to provide contribution in these testing times. SRK along with Gauri Khan,Juhi Chawla and Jai Mehta will be contributing to the PM Cares Fund through their IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Shahrukh Khan and Gauri Khan will also make a donation to Maharashtra CM’s Relief Fund their film banner Red Chillies Entertainment.
Meer Foundation has also tied up with Ek Saath-The Earth organisation to provide food to over 5500 families for a month in Mumbai. The ‘Swades” stars added that ‘A kitchen will be set up to send out 2000 freshly cooked meals every day to help Households and Hospitals.
Meer Foundation will also provide 3 lakh meal kits to 10,000 to underprivileged people and daily wage labours daily in Mumbai in association with the Roti Foundation.
In addition to this, SRK’s foundations will also work with working People’s Charter to provide essentials to over 2500 daily wage workers in Delhi for a Month.
The Badshah of Bollywood also added that the Meer Foundation will provide support to 100 acid attack victims in Uttar Pradesh,Bihar,West Bengal and Uttrakhand.
Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh :
Deepika and Ranveer also pledged their support towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM Cares Fund to help Combat the Coronavirus Pandemic in the Country.
The ‘Padmavat’ actors took their social media handles to announce that they will donate to relief fund also also urged fans to do their bit.
Lata Mangeshkar :
Whether in Cash or Kind,more and more personalities from Indian Entertainment fraternity are initiating to offer support during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Lata Mangeshkar announced on Twitter that she was donating Rs.25 lakhs to the Chief Minister Assistance Fund as a part of her “Duty to help the government during this difficult time.”
Sara Ali Khan :
Sara Ali Khan also pledged an undisclosed amount towards the relief work in order to combat COVID-19 spread in the country.
“I pledge to donate the PM Cares Fund and the Chief Minister Relief Fund.(Maharashtra).”
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas:
Priyanka along with Popstar-Husband Nick Jonas,donated and undisclosed amount to 10 charities including PM’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in emergency situation fund (PM- CARES),UNICEF,Goonj,Doctors without Borders,No Kid Hungry and SAG-AFTRA.
Kartik Aryan :
“Whatever I am, Whatever money I have earned,is only because of the people of India and for us I am contributing Rs.1 Crore to PM-CARES fund. I urge all my fellow Indians also to help as much as possible”,wrote Kartik.
Salman Khan :
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan pledged to financially support 25,000 daily wage workers from the film fraternity in wake of the national lockdown, according to federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE).
According to FWICE president Mr.BN Tiwari,Salman via his Being Human foundation reached out to their organisation to help the workers.
Vicky Kaushal :
Vicky Kaushal pledged of contributing Rs.1 Crore to PM CARES and Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Nana Patekar :
On Monday, Bollywood actor Nana Patekar sent out a tweet along with a video message announcing that he will be donating Rs.50 Lakh to the PM-CARES fund to support India’s fight against COVID-19.
Alia Bhatt :
Alia Bhatt also pledged her contribution to the PM CARES fund and the Chief Minister Relief Fund (Maharashtra).
Katrina Kaif :
The 36-years old actor took the Instagram and announced on Monday that she will be making her contribution to the PM-CARES fund and Maharashtra Chief Minister’s fund to help the nation to combat the Coronavirus outbreak. Katrina Kaif donated an undisclosed amount to PM-CARES fund.
And many actors such as Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Kapoor, Rajkumar Rao, Rapper Badshah, Shilpa Shetty, Sabyasachi, Kriti Sanon, Bhumi Pednekar, Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, Kapil Sharma, Pawan Kalyan, Ram Charan have also pledged to contribute to the PM Relief Fund and to help with the ongoing CORONA Pandemic.
