TVK chief C Joseph Vijay, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday sought to develop a clear picture that an event to recognize the academic achievers among students of Class X and XII from across the state was not meant for any political outreach.
At the awards ceremony, held in Chennai, Vijay explained that the programme was supposed to be for the students to be given recognition for their work in the field of academics and not be associated with any future plans for electoral politics.
It has been held every year since 2023, during which students have been rewarded with cash prizes and certificates for their performances in their board exams.
Remarks Follow High Court Notes
Vijay’s clarification comes in the wake of latest comments made by the Madras High Court on the usage of kids in politics.
There was reportedly concern expressed by the court about involvement of children in TVK’s political activities, saying they were “in bad taste.
Vijay made an attempt to get away from politics during the opening of the awards ceremony and spoke to the students.
“I am not here as a Chief Minister. As usual, I am here as your brother,” he said.
He also negated rumors indicating that the event was being organised to set the groundwork for the Lok Sabha polls in 2029.
Vijay Urges Students to Focus on Education
Vijay simply stated he was at the event to receive votes and not to speak about politics and asked students to concentrate on their education and future.
He told them to read diligently, to excel and become high in their station in Life.
The TVK chief also recommended the students to have respect towards each other, refrain from bribery, corruption or drugs between boys and girls.
Young people were prevented from engaging in practices detrimental to their lives or that lead to addictions and encouraged to pursue the success and responsibility that leads to a bright future.
