An LPG Tanker has crashed and burst fire at a Sihori Toll Plaza near Uttar Prataliya’s Kaushambi district killing at least four and injuring two people, police said.
The accident took place early June 26 inside the limits of Kokhraj police station on the side of a road divider and on board a tanker that was on a way from Kanpur to Varanasi.
The force of the impact resulted in a gas leakage that rapidly increased, before the tanker was ignited and opened fire, engulfing the area around it, police said. A video of the accident was captured by CCTV, which footage reveals the speeding tanker, moments before the huge fireball, struck into the divider.
Tanker driver Dharmendra Dwivedi of Mirzapur was unable to get out of the cabin and perished by the fire.
Five staff members at the toll plaza were burned and were rushed at Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj for treatment. One of the injured, identified as Alok Singh, later succumbed to his injuries, taking the death toll to four.
The Fire and Emergency Response teams immediately rushed to scene to bring the fire under control and commenced firefighting and rescue efforts. Police are investigating the exact cause of the crash and are now looking at the CCTV footage and other evidence pertaining to the crash.
