While thousands of followers and holy men gather in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh at the auspicious occasion of Mahakumbh Mela, some unusual and interesting deity names can be highlighted. One among them is ‘Bavander’ Baba or Tornado Baba, who cycled 100 thousand kilometers to get to the holy city. Another is ‘Splendor’ Baba, a specially abled man who traveled for 14 days from Gujarat on a 3-wheeler motorcycle to attend the event.

Swami Bavander Baba, whose objective is the dissemination of ‘Sanatana Dharma’ in India, complained about the blasphemy of Hindu gods. “I have a very serious concern about Hindus themselves, compromising on the respect to gods and goddesses. When I was present at the Kumbh, a pack of ‘beedis’ had an image of Lord Shiva on it. In response to this, I have written letters to the Chief Ministers of 14 states and expect some action to be taken,” he said. That is why his participation at Mahakumbh is dedicated to raising awareness of such issues.

On the other hand, Splendor Baba, from an ashram between Rajkot and Ahmedabad, is a second-time participant and came to Kumbh Mela for the second time since 2013. He also narrated the ordeal of polio, which he had been suffering from since childhood, but he survived a 14 days journey to get to the camp. While the rainbowed for four days and kept me stuck in a place, this time, there was a phenomenon going on.

The Mahakumbh Mela, which takes place only once in 12 years, has seen the participation of other similar characters like Chhotu Baba, who hadn’t bathed for 32 years, Chabhi wale Baba, who carries a 20 KG key on his neck as well as e-rickshaw Baba who comes from Delhi to Prayagraj.

The coming Kumbh to be held between January 13 and February 26 is set to be a grand event with people flooding the venue.
