Shortly after his party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were remanded to an extended judicial custody of two days, Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijit Dipke on Monday shared a picture of the group leaders, saying they entered the court with smiles on their faces and their spirits unbroken.
“Ashu and Saurav’s first crime was waving the Tiranga at Jantar Mantar. Their second crime? Refusing to back down. Even after five days in jail, they walked into court with smiles on their faces, their spirits unbroken,” Dipke wrote on X, sharing a photo of Ranka and Das being brought to court.
The duo of the CJP were taken into custody on October 13th for nearing Jantar Mantar earlier after the police denotified it as a protest site and unfurled the national flag. Along with other CGB workers, they waved the national flag at the site and raised slogans against the Election Commissioner Ganesh Kumar before being detained and being placed under preventive arrest. The following day, a special executive magistrate remanded Ranka and Das to five days judicial custody, which has now been extended by another two days after a hearing today. The matter has been posted for October 21st.
Dipke also launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the government of using state machinery to intimidate young protesters. In a video shared on social media, he questioned the Prime Minister’s leadership, asking, “What kind of leadership is this, where young people are jailed for waving the national flag? You feel like a powerful Prime Minister by keeping them in jail? You are just a coward,” he added. Ranka and Das remained defiant despite spending five days in judicial custody.
After spending five days in jail, the same Saurav Das, who himself thought he would not be able to survive even a single day in jail, walks into court on the fifth day with a smile,” he said.
“And even when he learns that his judicial custody has been extended, he is not afraid. That is strength,” he added. Dipke had also shared a photo.
