The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a ₹6,969-crore four-lane access-controlled highway project in Uttar Pradesh aimed at improving regional connectivity and boosting economic growth.
This project will entail the construction of a 101.5-km long National Highway-927 connecting Barabanki and Bahraich. It will be built under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) in the context of a broader transport corridor between Lucknow and Rupaidiha.
The new highway will be expected to alleviate traffic jams, eliminate the risky curves and enhance the geometry of the road in the crowded areas of Barabanki and Bahraich districts, officials said. With the access-controlled design and dedicated service roads and bypasses around the large habitations, it is expected that the travel time between the two cities will reduce to almost one hour, while greatly enhancing the safety of roads.
The corridor will ensure seamless connectivity to the major national and state highways, such as NH-27, NH-330B, NH-730, SH-13 and SH-30B. It will also improve connectivity with airports, railways, logistics hubs, including the strategic Rupaidiha Land Port close to India-Nepal border.
The government stated that this highway would turn into a crucial trade and transit corridor between India and Nepal, enabling seamless movement of goods and people. The project will create significant jobs and is expected to create lakhs of person-days of work, both direct and indirect.
The corridor will also help the agriculture sector, tourism and cross-border trade and logistics, and enhance connectivity with key towns like Ramnagar, Jarwal and Kaisarganj.
