Botad: The Gujarat police have arrested two persons for reportedly trying to derail a passenger train by placing an iron slab on the tracks in Botad district. The police informed the public that the attacker’s intention was to steal from the passengers once the train was either wrecked or stopped. This horrific incident occurred on 25 September at about 3.00 a.m. near Kundli village.
The possible catastrophe was narrowly averted Sunday when the Okha-Bhavnagar passenger train (19210) clipped the piece of iron but did not jump the tracks. The train was passing through the jurisdiction of Ranpur police station in Botad district when it met an old rail, about four-foot-long, lying on the track beside cement sleepers. After the accident, the train stopped for several hours, so passengers’ journeys were disrupted.
According to Superintendent of Police, Kishor Baloliya, the train collided directly with an iron rail that was placed erect on the middle of the rail track. Fortunately, it did not go astray.” Police investigation by the Railway police showed that the two accused persons, namely Ramesh and Jayesh, planned to snatch the articles of passengers in the event of a train derailment. Their plan was that they were to wait until the train had stopped and then launch their robbery by attacking at a point in the adjacent fields.
Police forces, without any delay, the operation were launched in parallel by Botad district police, Railway Protection Force, ATS, and different central agencies. All their efforts led to the rápida capture of the suspects. ”It is horrendously wrong,” said Baloliya, who underscored the risks associated with the crime to public safety. Police have now embarked on preventing occurrences of such actions in the future and facilitating the safety of all passengers using public means.
