According to the CBI, which took polygraphic and layered voice analysis of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, his responses were held to be evasive. This development comes against the backdrop of an ongoing probe into the circumstances under which the trainee, a doctor, was raped and killed on August 9 this year.

CBI sources have said that Ghosh was intimated about the crime at 9:58 am but did not report it to the police. However, he made a general complaint much later, which the investigating agency considered suspicious. The CBI has accused Ghosh of putting forward a suicide theory that they seem not to agree with markers of external violence, particularly on the body of the victim. The victim was discovered wearing only underwear from the waist below the belt, which was another blow to the suicide theory.

From the findings, it is evident that Ghosh called Abhijit Mondal, the Officer In Charge (OC) of Tala Police Station, at around 10:03 AM. However, the police were not able to get to the scene of the crime straight away. It was only at 11:30 am that the unnatural death case was recorded. Mondal has since then been arrested by the CBI in connection with the same.

A general diary entry number 542 suggests that the body of the postgraduate trainee from RG Kar Medical College was found in an ’unconscious state’ in the chest medicine seminar room. However, the paper said a doctor had already treated the body and said the victim was already dead. The CBI further believes that a general diary entry was made along with the help of hospital staff and other unknown people to put the wrong details of the occurrence.

The agency is trying to draw attention to some discrepancies as to the sequence of events and the reaction of college officials after the crime and the possibility of a vast conspiracy to mask the truth about what happened to the trainee doctor tragically.
