Jaipur: For the upcoming assembly elections in Jaipur, Thursday was the last day for candidates to withdraw their nominations. Both the BJP and Congress saw several contestants retract their names after intense negotiations. Following these withdrawals, a total of 199 candidates remain in the electoral arena for the 19 assembly seats in Jaipur district.
It’s worth noting that on November 6, the last day for nominations, a total of 298 candidates had filed their nomination papers. However, 55 candidates chose to withdraw their names. Notable defections from Congress include Saroj Meena from Pipalda, Hemant Bhati from Ajmer South, Brahmadev Kumawat from Masuda, Kumbhsingh from Falodi, Balram Varma from Suratgarh, Mohsin Rashid from Tonk, Girish Parihar from Hawamahal, Anurag Joya from Pilani, and Prakash Choudhary, a former MLA from Badi Sadri. Other defectors include Shailendra Yadav from Jhalrapatan, the BSP candidate from Sanganer, and an RLP candidate from Bikaner.
From Congress, players like Leelal Bairwa, Johrilal Meena, Ramlal Meghwal, Naresh Meena, Fateh Khan, Shrigopal Baheti, Om Bishnoi, Durg Singh Chouhan, Devararam Roth, Habib Ur Rahman, Karuna Chandak, Manoj Chouhan, Alok Beniwal, Sunil Parihar, Kailash Meena, Rajkaran Choudhary, Ajizuddin Aazad, Veerendra Beniwal, Rakesh Boyat, Ramniwas Goyal, Mahendra Barjoda, and Gopal Gurjar are actively participating in the electoral battleground.
Those retracting from the fray include Rajpal Singh Shekhawat from Jhotwara, Giridhari Tiwari from Bharatpur, Ranjeet Sodala from Civil Lines, Subhash Khandelwal and Surendra Singh Shekhawat from Ajmer North, and Madan Rathore from Sumerpur. Additionally, Bagi Hakru Maida from Banswara has reversed his decision to contest.
This withdrawal period signifies the finalization of the candidate list, and now Jaipur district is poised for a competitive electoral contest with 199 candidates remaining in the fray for the 19 assembly seats.
