A passenger bus collided with a truck and went on fire on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway in Dausa district of Rajasthan early on Wednesday, killing at least eight people and injuring 24 others in the process, police said.

The incident happened close to Dhanawda in the limits of Kolwa police station. The Hans Travels bus was on 510 road, a Rishikesh-Indore expressway, when it was hit by a truck that was driving in front of it, police said.

This collision caused a very large fire in each of the cars, and a lot of confusion in the cars. Five people were burnt alive in the blaze, while two others died on the spot due to severe head injuries. A second passenger was taken at a hospital for medical treatment, only to die from burns to the foot and face.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dausa Piyush Dixit confirmed death toll and rescue team responded immediately after getting information about crash.

Patients were taken to Dausa district hospital where they were reported to be in “stable” condition.

The remaining three deceased bodies are being identified, with one – Dharmendra – identified through an investigation by the Superintendent of Police, who stated that he had died of head injuries, Additional Superintendent of Police Shankar Lal said.

The Rajasthan fire was extinguished and the rescue operation was conducted by the fire brigade personnel and local administration teams, who poured hundreds of dollars during the process. Police is trying to determine exactly what caused the crash.
