Chandigarh: The weather in Punjab is set to change once again. The Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms, strong winds, and light to moderate rain in several districts of the state. The weather may change suddenly, especially in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Rupnagar. Warnings have also been issued for lightning and strong winds in these areas.
Meanwhile, several districts in Punjab, including Chandigarh, are experiencing intense heat and heatwaves. Residents in Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Mohali are experiencing significant discomfort due to rising temperatures.
A slight change in the weather on Friday brought some relief. Rain in Himachal Pradesh and border areas brought the temperature down by about 3.4 degrees Celsius. Despite this, Bathinda remained the hottest district in the state, with the maximum temperature reaching 44 degrees Celsius.
In response to the rising heat, the Punjab government has changed the timings of schools and government offices. The Chandigarh administration has decided to keep schools closed until June 30.
