The health department and hospital administration ordered higher precautions to combat infection when a swine flu patient died in treatment in the district’s hospital’s intensive care unit.
The patient was admitted to the ICU 3 days ago and was reportedly on treatment as his condition continued to get worse. The doctors managed to save the victim, but it wasn’t being able to save the patient.
After the death, the health ministry stepped up the precautions and surveillance at the hospital to stop further spreading of the infection. However the development has also alarmed, since 15 people are suffering from dengue at the district hospital.
The hospital administration is stricter with the infection-control guidelines in the intensive (ICU) care and other sensitive wards, after the incidents of both Dengue and Swine Flu have been reported. Staff have been informed to introduce extra precautions and implement the infection control guidelines.
People have also been asked to take precautions against the spread of diseases, including in high-traffic areas. Those have been recommended to stay away from crowded places and wear masks when necessary.
It has also been suggested to individuals with symptoms of fever, cough and cold or severe body pain to seek medical attention in time. These symptoms have been advised to the patients to go to the nearest hospital or healthcare centre for proper tests.
With the above mentioned case of swine flu death and 5 patients testing positive for dengue virus, preventing infection has become a major concern for the district hospital. The situation is being closely watched and authorities have asked everyone to take care in the hospital as well as at home and are asking residents to seek treatment if they experience symptoms.
