In Madhya Pradesh, political will has come a long way since allegation was made on Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Deepam Raichura that a sum of ₹1 crore was given to him for a liquor shop contract. The Congress has asked for his immediate suspension along with filing an FIR for an impartial investigation.

Mohit Gogia, who has been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch in the alleged defrauding and forgery case, made a disclosure to the agencies investigating it about the amount.

According to Gogia, he paid ₹1 crore to Raichura to secure contracts for two liquor shops at TT Nagar area of the city for the upcoming 2024-25 interval in the name of Jaswant Kumar.

According to the account, ₹50 lakh of the amount was received in cash payments from a person named Deepak Dubey residing in shalimar fortleza, who is a resident of a flat. Dubey is said to be in the good books of Raichura. The allegations still must be verified by the investigation to substantiate such claims.

After the allegations, Madhya Pradesh Congress committee president Jitu Patwari have sent a letter to the state government, asking it to take action against the OSD. The party contended that if Raichura was kept on as he is in the investigation, it could give rise to concerns about the impartiality of investigation.

Congress leaders demand FIR on available points of Corruption and Fraud provisions by Congress party spokesperson and Congress chief Yogesh Yadav. The party has called on Advid Chief Minister Jagdish Devda to clarify his doubts in public and respond to queries regarding his entanglements in the case.

The allegations have sparked political debate in the State, with the opposition demanding accountability and transparency in the investigation.

The allegations against each of the individuals named, however, should not be accepted as conclusive evidence of a wrong unless through the proper use of law. It will depend on the evidence that the investigating agencies look at and any subsequent court action.
