Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee Chairman Jitu Patwari scolded MP government on farmers’ issues, sugar mill at Kailara, Vande Mataram controversy and deaths of children in Balaghat during his visit to Gwalior-Chambal area.

In a press rally in Gwalior, Patwari berated the government for declaring a “Farmer Welfare Year” as the farmers were seeing their inflationik rate escalate and their produce was being sold at cheaper rates.

He pointed out a continuing hunger strike being conducted by Congress MLA Pankaj Upadhyay and others who are supporting the strike at Kailaras regarding sugar mill issue. Patwari has said that the protest was observing its 7th consecutive day, but the government hadn’t replied to the farmers’ concern.

On the Kailaras Sugar Mill, Patwari tried to seek clarifications over several assurances received from the government to restart the mill. He pointed out that the Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had made a few announcements about its reopening and urged the government to do the needful in order to reopen the mill.

In response to the furor created by the Vande Mataram issue Patwari alleged that BJP was trying to stir springs of doubt around the concept of patriotism. National symbols like the national anthem and national song should not be political issues and Congress would stick to the Constitution,” he said.

Patwari also voiced some concerns about the deaths of kids at Balaghat where he said that the incidents reflected deep-rooted weaknesses in the health department of the state. He stated that corruption in multiple units, administrative shortcomings, are causing deaths.

Congress leader had raised it with the government and requested its prompt action. In reference to the earlier child deaths in the town of Chhindwara, he told that the government needs to show greater accountability from the health department and he said that the government should respond to the apprehensions of the Balaghat incident soon.
