A big controversy has outbroken in Singrauli regarding the alleged illegal construction at the widely discussed G2 Mall which is situated on Vindhyanagar Road. The Municipality has now gone on a no-bullshit campaign, after reports emerged that the mall was built beyond the limits set in the original construction scheme.

The initial permission from the municipal corporation was for just construction on nearly 1,232 square metres, officials said. But in recent inspections, the authorities allegedly found that the actual construction was far over the limit sanctioned. After the findings, the corporation embarked on detailed research of the project and started to look at all the documents, approvals and building maps that are associated with the project.

The matter has also been brought to the public’s attention to raise questions about administrative surveillance and transparency. Residents said they wonder how the massive project has gone on so long without proper inspections or action by civic officers. Many citizens called for the more rigorous monitoring of commercial/industrial buildings and public residential developments as a way of avoiding future conflicts.

The matter was taken seriously to which Municipal Commissioner Savita Pradhan responded that an official notice has been sent to the property owner. The 10-day period will give the mall management the chance to voluntarily remove any illegal encroachments or construction that encroaches on the plan.

If the unauthorised areas are not demolished within the time limit, the Municipal Corporation will take action against the property, said Pradhan. The notice has reportedly put pressure on the G2 Mall management and the administration is under constant observation by its residents in the high-profile case.
