Maihar: Five youths and another person were killed and another was severely injured in a road accident in the town of Maihar in Madhya Pradesh, after a fast moving car hit the back of a truck on National Highway-30, en route from Indore to Mumbai’s Santacruz.
Police said the crash happened near Rigra village as the victims were coming back from the birthday of Manoj Patel, Vice-President of a Janpad, Amarpatan. Investigators estimate the vehicle was driving at high speed as it entered the intersection and collided with a nearby driver who was either operating a semitrailer truck.
The collision was so devastating, it caused the car to be completely mangled and all 6 occupants were trapped inside the car. The people of the area, as well as police, went to the spot to save the survivors from the ruins.
Five of the occupants were killed and the sixth youth suffered critical injuries and is in hospital nearby.
The hooded-and-tunneled bodies were allegedly “part of the same family,” although their names have not been confirmed by the police.
The event has left the area in a state of mourning, with families mourning the loss of the young victims and amid concerns about their future.
Police have opened an investigation to establish what caused the accident and a case has been registered. Police are also investigating if overspeeding or anything else may have led to the fatal crash.
