Bhopal: The house of ex-BJP MLA Harvansh Singh Rathore turned into a hub for the latest IT operation exposing large-scale tax theft and undisclosed income. In addition to Rathore, former BJP councilor and bidi businessman Rajesh Kesarwani was also quick to find himself in the firing line. The particular operation took place at the break of January 5 in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, and attracted attention not only in the neighborhood but throughout the city.
The IT department, acting along with other investigative departments that were involved in the operation, seized 14 kg gold, ₹ 3.80 crore in cash, and 10 luxury cars in the operation. Most of them were said to have been registered under the names of workers or associates, apparently to disguise ownership. Even before Kesarwani and Rathore, it was estimated that the bidi manufacturing companies, construction firms, and plotted and built-up land grabbed by the duo is worth ₹200 crore.
It was conducted after reports of preposterous accumulation of wealth and established fraud in the evasion of taxes on a tremendously massive scale. IT officials have noted that the accused had engaged in businesses with the aim of making illicit income. The raid was done severally in different places with the intention of probing into their financial records of fraudulent activities.
It has raised eyebrows in the political and business realms throughout the region’s political community. Several business relations and political connections between Harvansh Rathore and Rajesh Kesarwani have been investigated. They have been blamed for being involved in the rooms’ black activities, hence misusing political power for their benefit.
This raid is another recent action against ex-RTO constable Saurabh Sharma in MP, showing an increase in IT department efforts to combat corruption and tax fraud in the state. Previously untold allegations have yet to be made now that investigations are ongoing, and this may extend the list of targets.
