Gwalior: During a recent inspection, DRM DK Sinha of the Jhansi Rail Mandal visited the Gwalior Railway Station, scrutinizing the ongoing development projects and cleanliness issues. Numerous deficiencies and negligence related to cleanliness were observed during the inspection. Expressing dissatisfaction, DRM issued a stern warning to the station manager and the construction agency, emphasizing the need for monitoring cleanliness and ensuring passenger comfort during construction activities.
DRM directed officials to maintain cleanliness standards and promptly address deficiencies. The Gwalior Railway Station is undergoing a redevelopment and expansion project with an estimated cost of 500 crores. The development works’ progress and organizational arrangements were inspected by DRM to ensure smooth operations and address issues before the arrival of the General Manager (GM) of the railway, scheduled to visit Gwalior soon.
Notably, the historical significance of Gwalior Railway Station dates back to 1878 when its foundation was laid. Over the years, the station has retained its heritage look, especially after Maharaja Jivaji Rao Scindia’s initiatives in 1940. Despite its historical and archaeological importance, the station is currently facing challenges due to the increasing number of passengers.
The ongoing redevelopment and expansion, costing 500 crores, aim to alleviate the pressure caused by the rising passenger numbers. Construction has already commenced, and in light of this, DRM DK Sinha conducted an inspection on Saturday. He scrutinized the construction work on all platforms and reprimanded officials for the visible dirt near the main entrance.
DRM also emphasized the need to ensure that passengers are not inconvenienced due to construction activities. He instructed the construction agency to take special care of the safety and comfort of passengers during the ongoing work. It is noteworthy that the GM of the North Central Railway is also expected to inspect the Gwalior Railway Station shortly. Hence, DRM has taken the initiative to inspect and provide necessary directives before the GM’s visit, ensuring that the progress and arrangements meet the required standards.
