The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Madhya Pradesh unit, have apprehended a man for transporting opium and recovered 115.160 kg of narcotics in a big anti-drug raid. The arrest had been done on the Agra-Jaipur NH in a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation.
Officials said they had specific information that a large quantity of illegal opium was being transported from Guwahati to Jodhpur in a Hyundai Creta registered in Jharkhand to CBN Neemuch. The bureau took up the tip-off, established a special team and began surveillance along the rumored route.
Authorities kept a tight watch on an area of some two thousand kilometres so as they could monitor the car’s progress. CBN’s officers flagged the suspected car at the Sikandra Toll Plaza of Agra-Jaipur Highway early on the morning of June 20th.
In a thorough investigation, authorities found 109 packs of opium in three packs of sacking in the car’s back. The total seized was 115.160 kg of contraband.
Investigators later found that there was a significant amount of perfume in there inside the vehicle. The officials think that the perfume was used to conceal the other strong smell of opium, which might have been detected while transporting it.
The driver of the vehicle was immediately arrested, and the opium and the Hyundai Creta, which were used for smuggling, were handed over for further police action.
According to a preliminary investigation, the narcotics shipments were being smuggled from Guwahati to Jodhpur through an organised network. The police have started investigating thoroughly to find out if anyone else participated in the plan and if there are stages in the business where the order came from.
In an attempt to unmask the broader cliquismo operation, efforts were underway by officials of the CBN toward further actions against all those involved,” CBN officials said.
