Controversial posters, aimed at senior INC leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge, were seen outside the Wayanad Congress office and in the surrounding areas, and an FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against the people responsible.
The FIR was lodged at Kalpetta police station on a complaint by MLA T. Siddique, officials said. The incident was under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Kerala Police Act.
Such posters emerged in the midst of political skirmishes in the Congress on 13 May about who would be the next elected Kerala chief minister after the party-led United Democratic Front won the Assembly elections.
Several posters pointed out that the Congress high command was at fault and specifically quesioned whether Congress grandee K. C. Venugopal could be considered for the top job. Some messages indicated that the people of Kerala will never forgive its leadership if it takes such a step, others were referring to Wayanad and Amethi in a politically correct language.
Some posters also threatened electoral repercussions to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who represents Wayanad and has succeeded her late husband Rahul Gandhi in Parliament, police said.
The controversy started as pressure mounted on the Congress workers due to the demand of senior leadership V. D. Satheesan for becoming chief minister. However, after the Congress’ landslide victory at the state polls, the Congress officially confirmed Satheesan as the Chief Minister-designate.
