Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Meghalaya are undergoing one of the biggest electoral verification exercises in a country with the Election Commission of India (ECI) launching the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls Tuesday. In the drive, almost 19.79 crore registered voters would be dealt with while all other electoral lists are purged across the country of duplicate, migrated and outdated entries.
As per the revision process, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will door-to-door verify the data and distribute the enumeration forms and verify voter details household by household. Physical verification exercise shall be carried on till July 29th in Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi and Meghalaya.
Other than the house-to-house survey voters can find and update their electoral information online using the Voter Service Portal of Election Commission. The poll body has given approval to 12 standard identity cards such as aadhaar and Indian Passport for verification.
The draft electoral roll will be published after the completion of the enumeration on 05 August by the Election Commission. Citizens will then be given one month (5 Aug – 4 Sept) to submit claims, objections or request correction in their voter information.
Everyone who has made corrections and claims to the electoral roll will have the final revised electoral roll available for release on October 7, 2026.
The phased roll-out campaign to clean and accurate election roll nationally includes the Special Intensive Revision. The exercise is designed to remove duplicated registrations, accounts of voters who have passed away or moved, and enhance the integrity of the nation’s electoral data base, officials said.
